When I use the demo environment, and paste a text into the box, no sentiments are displayed

  1. There could be different reasons why sentiments are not detected via http://demo.opendover.nl/. I would mention just two.

#1 – Ontology-Based search is used but OpenDover is not able to detect subject domain of the text. When this is the case, a user simply receives input text in the output with no information added by OpenDover.

#2 – sentiments in the input text do not match any pattern which OpenDover is aware off.

To show how the demo works lets start with a simple example.

“Nevertheless, the gadget's lens is perfect. The colours are very good too.”

Originally it was a sentence about some Canon's camera. Its name is replaced by neutral “gadget” here.

Do not specify any objects yet, use “Ontology Based” search, click “Process”. The demo application shows that subject domain is “Product-Camera”. It also detects “lens” + “perfect” combination which correspond to “Product-Camera” ontology.

Now select “Bare Sentiment Based” and click search. You will see that the application does not estimate opinion force per subject domain. “Product-Camera” domain is still there, but opinion force per domain is not visible any more. Now OpenDover finds two opinion words - “perfect” and “very good”. However, the search was not based on ontology and OpenDover does not assume that “very good” is somehow related to “Product-Camera”. It is just an emotion.
